M.Tech in Hydro-Informatics Engineering

Hydroinformatics?

National Institute of Technology Agartala(Tripura) is offering 2 years course on M.Tech in Hydro-Informatics Engineering. Graduates from Electrical, Mechanical, Civil and MSc students of Environment Engineering, GIS are eligible to apply.

If you have a valid GATE score, you can enrol through the Spot Round counselling which will be held online by the CCMT.

The course is nine years old and the passed out students are either doing PhD in a reputed institute like IIT Roorkee, IIT Delhi, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Ropar etc.or have been appointed as Assistant Professor in different colleges like University of Engineering and Management(Kol), Meghnad Saha Institute of Technology(Kol) etc. Few students have also cracked the campus interview to join in L&T, Infosys etc.

But according to the course coordinator, the School of Hydro-Informatics Engg., which is conducting the course, wants a student who is interested in doing research in interdisciplinary topics. As for example, climate change, natural resource management, fluvial hydraulics, water and energy efficiency, hydropower development,water-energy nexus, data science and AI&ML in water resources management etc.

There is ample scope of novel research where multi-disciplinary people can work under the same roof to carry out problem-solving exercises in mitigating various hazards and avoiding disasters due to the climatic impacts on the water resources. Studies for providing optimal solutions to present uncertainty in the energy sector along with numerous multi-criteria decision-making studies are also conducted.

In the syllabus new subjects like Hydro-Informatics Engg, Natural Resources Management and old topics like Geophysical Fluid Dynamics, Principle of Water Resources etc. are included.

Tools like GIS, WaterCAD, GMDH etc. and new age data science techniques like nature-based algorithms like Ant colony, Bat, Swarm etc., Multi-Criteria Decision Making are also taught during the course.

The lab page can be found at Research Gate.

Students who want to pursue their career in research are welcome to apply for this course.

Five Most Extreme Hydrologic Events that changed the World

Typhoon Tip, Philipines(Collected from : CSMonitor ) Devastating storms, severe flood, acute famine conditions, etc. hydrological events of extreme nature has changed human history. Any event which is not normal is known as an abnormal event. In the case of hydrology, an event that has a return period of more than 100 years is considered Extreme. According to Herring(2020) of Climate.gov, "An extreme event is a time and place in which weather, climate, or environmental conditions—such as temperature, precipitation, drought, or flooding—rank above a threshold value near the upper or lower ends of the range of historical measurements." Though the threshold is not objective, few researchers have defined "extreme events as those that occur in the highest or lowest 5% or 10% of historical measurements". Some have described events by their deviation from the mean, or by their occurrence interval.   Here the most severe five extreme hydrologic events were discussed which ...

Autocorrelation in Water Resource Development

A new article was posted in HydroGeek : Five Most Recent Research Works on Autocorrelation in Water Resource Management Autocorrelation is the correlation between two part of a single data series and is useful when the trendability of a parameter is approximated with the help of data.
